In previous years, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, work was carried out in the presbytery of the Bernardine Church. This Gothic church was built in the 16th century for the Franciscan Order. As a result of the works carried out, paintings dating from the 17th and 18th centuries were uncovered.

Work carried out in 2020.

Technical conservation of the polychromy of the south wall of the chancel continued in 2020. The task was financed both by the programme of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and by funds from the POLONIKA Institute.

As a result of the work, the initial cleaning of the wall surface was completed through technical elaboration of the preserved and new plasters. A partial colour integration of the preserved polychromes was carried out. The putty and patches, as well as the plaster devoid of polychrome, were integrated using lime whitewash coloured light grey.

In 2019, with funding from the POLONIKA Institute, technical conservation work was carried out in the southern part of the church's chancel to stop the destruction of the preserved polychromes. Physico-chemical studies were also carried out to establish the technique, technology, chronology of formation and extent of the different phases of pigments, binders and mortars.
