Biography:

Stanisława Paleolog (1892-1968), born in Rumno, was a Polish independence activist. She participated in four wars and was a lieutenant colonel in the Polish Army of the Republic of Poland. She completed her studies at the Commercial Academy in Lwów. She took part in the defence of Lwów during the Polish-Ukrainian War. In 1918 she joined the Civic Guard, where she served with the rank of corporal. She was a nurse and a courier. When on 1 April 1920 the Women's Voluntary Legion Departments were created at the Mobilisation Section of Section I of the Staff of the Ministry of Military Affairs in Warsaw, she became, in the rank of second lieutenant, the adjutant-in-chief, and also took charge of the personnel affairs desk. During the Second World War, she worked in the Polish Police of the General Government. In 1946, she left Poland. She went to Italy and then to the United Kingdom, where she settled for the rest of her life. In 1954, President of the Republic of Poland August Zaleski appointed her as a member of the second Civil Court in London. She became a minister in Antoni Pajak's first government in exile. In 1957, a book by her entitled The Women Police in Poland 1925-1939 was published on the history of the Polish Women's Police, which she founded.
