Biography:

Władysław Byrka (1878-1945), born in Sambor, died in Edinburgh, son of Ignacy and Karolina, née Wojtasiewicz, Polish lawyer, economist, political activist of the Second Republic, banker, President of the Bank of Poland, economic self-government activist, MP of the first, second, third and fourth terms, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm. In September 1939, he evacuated the Bank and its gold reserves to Paris, and in June 1940 to London. On 11 April 1941, he was dismissed from the position of President by the Polish Government in Exile.
