Biography:

Tadeusz Grodyński (1888-1958), born in Kraków, died in London, Polish economist, state activist of the Second Republic, treasurer, one of the most eminent experts on budget issues. He studied at the Faculty of Law of the Jagiellonian University, and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws (1911). He worked in the Treasury Procurator's Office in Lvov. He studied public and private law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Paris and at the diplomatic section of the École Libre des Sciences Politiques (1912-1914). In 1916, he was appointed to the Treasury Ministry in Vienna. He worked at the Ministry of the Treasury of the Republic of Poland (1918-1927), serving as Undersecretary of State at the Treasury from 1927 to 1931 and Deputy Minister of the Treasury from 1935 to 1939. From 1922 to 1939, he lectured at the Higher School of Commerce. In December 1931, he obtained his habilitation at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University, and in 1936 was appointed full professor of budgetary law at the University of Warsaw. In September 1939, he went into exile in Great Britain. While in exile, he served as a member of the college of the Supreme Chamber of State Control (1940-1958), lectured on Polish budgetary law at the Faculty of Law in Oxford (1944-1947) at the School of Political and Social Sciences (1949-1951), and after the establishment of the Polish University Abroad in 1951 became its full professor and chairman of the Faculty Committee on Economics. He was also President of the Association of Polish Economists in the United Kingdom, Chairman of the Review Committee of the Civic Committee for the Assistance of Polish Refugees, and President of the Polish Scientific Society Abroad. Until his death, he served as Chief Election Commissioner and was a member of the Chapter of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
