Grave quarters of Polish soldiers at Vienna Central Cemetery

In the Central Cemetery (Zentralfriedhof) in Vienna, in the area marked as group 88, there is a quarter of 30 graves of Polish soldiers who died in the city while in German captivity during the Second World War.

The graves are located in three rows on two sides of a short alley. Each grave bears a simple cross with the name of the person buried, the military rank and the years of their life. In 1979, a brass commemorative plaque was placed in the centre of the cemetery. It was engraved with the Polish emblem and the text in Polish and German: "To the memory of Polish soldiers/ victims of fascism in 1939-1945/ Zum Gedenken an polnische Soldaten/ Opfer des Faschismus in Jahren 1939-1945", and below it personal details of those buried.
