Biography:

Józef Grzegorz Chłopicki (1771-1854), born in Kapustyn. He attended a convent school, but was not an outstanding student. At the age of 14, he joined the army. In 1788 he joined the Russian army (he left the Polish army for a year) and fought with the Russians against Turkey. He then took part in the Polish-Russian War of 1792. He fought on the Polish side in the Kosciuszko Insurrection. In 1797 he joined Dabrowski's Legions. He took part in a significant number of battles. He also fought alongside Napoleon. He became one of the commanders in the November Uprising. He was a freemason. He lived the last years of his life in Kraków.
