Monument to Polish airmen shot down in 1943

Memorial to the five Polish crew of the Halifax aircraft shot down in 1943 and to the Christiansen family on whose house the aircraft fell. On 17 September 1943 the aircraft was returning to its base in the UK after a successful mission in Poland. As the crew flew over Denmark they were attacked by a German aircraft, causing two of the Halifax's engines to catch fire. The burning aircraft hit the home of farmer Christiansen and exploded. In 1970, a memorial by Casimir Danilewicz depicting the two planes and the inscription on the plinth "For your freedom and our freedom" was erected on a grave funded by local residents in 1945. The monument was created from stone and metal and stands a total of 3 m high, including the 1.2 m high sculpture.
