Biography:

Janina Karczewska-Konieczna (1934) born in Gdynia. She graduated from an art high school there. She then studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Sopot. Her teachers included Prof. Krystyna Łada-Studnicka, Prof. Teresa Pągowska and Prof. Witold Frydrych. She defended her diploma in three fields: painting, ceramics and graphics. She participated several times in the International Biennial of Artistic Ceramics in Vallauris (France). In 1970, she was awarded the Prize de L'association Français d'Action Artistique. The commission was chaired by the representative of honour, Pablo Picasso. Janina Karczewska-Konieczna has had dozens of exhibitions around the world. Her works can be found in numerous Polish centres (National Museums in Warsaw, Gdańsk, Wrocław and Poznań) as well as worldwide (in the collections of the John Paul II Institute in Rome, Nässjö, Hamburg and Greifswald). Her largest realisation was the door made for the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Puri, India.
