The magistrate houses on Stryiska Street 50/76 in Lviv, designed by Michal Ryba, were built intermittently in 1925-1930. The building was an oval-plan building with an inner courtyard and was an example of Lviv architectural modernism. It was located near the Stryisky Park. It was a component of the so-called "Blocks", a complex of 16 buildings in Lviv inhabited by the local intelligentsia. Initially the building housed lecturers of the Lviv Polytechnic. The architect himself lived nearby on Na Bajkach Street (now Kijowska Street) before the Second World War. On 6 July 2023, as a result of an attack by the Russian army with Kaliber shells, the tenement was partially destroyed. Aleksandra Brodovska, PAP, who heads the international affairs team at the office of the director of the National Heritage Institute (NID) and the Centre for Assistance to Culture in Ukraine, told PAP that the building needs expert appraisal qualifying it for reconstruction and re-occupation. The reconstruction of monuments destroyed by the Russians in Ukraine uses the Warsaw Recommendation recognised at the NID conference in May 2018.
