Graves of Poles from World War II

In the municipal cemetery in Halberstadt, about 150 Polish citizens who died during the Second World War are buried in several quarters. About 60 Polish civilian victims of the war who were deported to the Reich are buried in a quarters called the special cemetery or the terror victims' quarters. In contrast, of the 164 inmates of Buchenwald Concentration Camp who rest in the quarters of the concentration camp victims, the names of 15 Poles are known. Also buried in this cemetery in a mass grave are 121 prisoners from the JVA Wolfenbüttel prison who were sent to do forced labour at the "Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk" camp in Halberstadt, 71 of them Poles.

In 2020-2021, the Polish-German Reconciliation Foundation, as part of a task supported by the Ministerial Programme "Sites of National Remembrance Abroad", compiled data on the buried persons and made it available, together with a description of the cemetery, on the website of the project "Polish Memorials and War Graves in Germany":
