Biography:

Jan Rustem (1762-1835), born in Istanbul, draughtsman, painter and professor. He studied painting with Jan Piotr Norblin, then with Marcello Bacciarelli. In 1798, he began working as an assistant to Franciszek Smuglewicz at the chair of painting at Vilnius University. In 1811 he became an associate professor of drawing, and from 1819 he taught painting. He became a full professor in 1821.
