Biography:

Mary Stanisia, born Monika Kurkowska (1878-197), was an American nun and painter of Polish origin. In the USA since 1881. In 1893, she entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Milwaukee (Wisconsin), and took her vows six years later. In 1919, she graduated with a degree in fine arts from the University of Chicago. As an artist, she created portraits, murals and works with religious themes. Her paintings can be found in St. Jack's Church in Chicago and Adrian College in Michigan, among others.
