Polonica in the Oshanského cemetery in Prague

Several graves of distinguished Poles are preserved in the Prague cemetery, among them:

In addition, Czechs who were involved in the Polish cause are buried. The first of these is Jiří Bittner, born 23.1.1846 Milavče k. Domažlic, died 6.5.1903 Prague. At the age of only seventeen he joined the January Uprising as a volunteer. During the fighting he was wounded, but managed to return safely to Bohemia. As an adult, he became an actor, and thanks to his knowledge of Polish, he was also involved in translating Polish works into Czech, including comedies by M. Balucki and A. Fredro. His wife Maria Boubinova - together they played, among others, in Meiningen (a court theatre company in the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen, founded in 1860 by Duke Georg II von Saxony-Meiningen). Buried Prague, Olšany Cemetery IV, q.9, grave 27.

Teresa of Kinska Poniatowska (1740-1806), wife of the royal brother, Andrzej Poniatowski, an officer in the Austrian army. She was descended from the Bohemian count Kinski family, loyal to the Habsburgs. Poniatowski met her while staying among the Czech aristocracy and fell in love with her with reciprocity. Although she came from a good family and enjoyed the favour of Empress Maria Theresa, she was not very affluent and the Poniatowskis opposed the wedding for a long time. Desiring Andrzej's happiness, the brothers provided him with a pension of two thousand ducats a year, and Stanisław, the future king of Poland, offered him a share of diamonds brought from Russia. Two children were born of the marriage contracted in 1760: Maria Teresa and Joseph, later a Polish national hero.

The portrait of Teresa Poniatowska was placed by Stanisław August Poniatowski in the Dining Room of the Łazienki Palace, together with other images of members of his family.
