This richly illustrated publication recalls the history of places very important for Polish cultural heritage abroad: Krosy in Samogitia, Krzemieniec in Volhynia and Podoliniec in Spisz. These three distant towns, today located within the borders of different countries - Lithuania, Ukraine and Slovakia - once played an important role not only in the history of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, but also of the whole of Europe. They were important educational and cultural centres, which attracted students eager to acquire a good education, as well as lecturers from various European countries. As a result, both the towns and their schools were compared to the cradle of education - Athens - or to respectable universities with centuries-old traditions, hence the name Krosėžie "Samogitian Athens", Krzemieniec "Wallachian Athens" and Podoliniec "Spišské Oxford".
