The burial site was originally marked by a cross stylised as a tree trunk, on a plinth in the form of a pile of stones and a base. A relief carved crown of thorns over the arms of the cross, oak leaves below. At the front on the pedestal a plaque in the form of an unrolled scroll held by an angel. On it an engraved inscription.
