The coat of arms adorns the castle gate. Most of the buildings and the general appearance date from 1393-1505, when the castle was the residence of the Lower Bavarian Wittelsbach line. From 1485, the castle was the residence of the Polish princess Jadwiga Jagiellonka, daughter of King Casimir IV Jagiellon and wife of the Bavarian Duke George the Rich.
