Biography:

Józef Płoszko (1867-1931), born in Warsaw. He studied architecture in Petresburg, at the Academy of Fine Arts there and the Institute of Civil Engineering. From 1897 he stayed in Baku and it was there that he made a major career. The buildings of his authorship are recognised as valuable monuments, important for the development of the city's architecture. He came to Azerbaijan at the invitation of another Polish architect, Józef Gosławski. At the time, Baku was experiencing a period of increased development, linked to the rapid growth of the oil industry and the associated wealth. Płoszko was a highly regarded designer, as evidenced by the fact that he served as the city architect. He realised numerous buildings, mainly residential, but also a few with sacred purposes. One of the people who repeatedly commissioned projects from Ploška was the Bakiński millionaire Agamusa Nagiyev. His realisations can also be found in Vladikavkaz, Northern Osteia. In 1925, Ploszko left Baku for Warsaw and then Paris.
