Cemetery in Tulczyn

Tulczyn | Ukraine
ukr. Tulʹczyn (Тульчин)

The Catholic cemetery in Tulczyn has practically ceased to exist, as a park with a memorial to the victims of fascism was established on the site in the 1980s. Neither the chapel founded in 1805 nor almost all the gravestones have survived, except for three plinths, which are parts of larger monuments. One is of black marble, on the grave of Franciszka Suszko, who died in 1882, and two are of stone, of Stanislaw Suszko (died 1888) and Father Gracjan Wroczynski (died 1909). In addition, as Hauser goes on to mention, the ashes of the Enlightenment poet Stanislaw Trembecki (1739-1812) were moved to the cemetery (now a park). He is commemorated by a plaque made in the post-war era decorated with a bas-relief cross and palm branch. The name is written in Polish and Ukrainian, but the information that he was an eminent Polish poet is only in Ukrainian https://ipn.gov.pl/pl/aktualnosci/79812,Kresy-polskie-dziedzictwo-na-wschodzie-Seminarium-dla-nauczycieli-1926-pazdziern.html .

During his visit, Hauser noticed a plaque stating that there was a Catholic cemetery in the park in the 18th-20th century.

Cemetery with Polish grave monuments. Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).
