The Nicolaus Copernicus monument unveiled in 1974 by Tadeusz Łodzian and Wacław Mazurek was a gift from the communist authorities to the city of Bogotá as part of the governments' efforts to restore diplomatic relations, which had been suspended in 1952. In 2017, the object underwent a major restoration. The sculpture is made of sandstone and is approximately 6 m high.
