Siemianówka cemetery

Siemianówka | Ukraine
ukr. Semeniwka (Семенівка)
Situated in the middle of the village, behind the parish church, the cemetery was probably founded in the early 19th century, as can be deduced from the dates on the surviving gravestones. The oldest tombstones are: a stone monument belonging to Emilia Krach (died 1826) with a sculpture of a young man standing next to it (without his head), with a German inscription, and a tall obelisk on a rectangular pedestal belonging to Anna Kertesz de Rosa (died 1827), probably of Hungarian origin, with a Latin inscription.

It is divided into two parts, demarcated by a pathway. The first, inactive, extends just behind the church. The second is still active and located more in the depths of the necropolis.

Hauser also draws attention to a magnificent tombstone topped by a cross, now a memorial to the victims of the 'Cain days' in 1944, with a new plaque from that year, and a whitewashed monument decorated with the mask of the Suffering Christ commemorating 'sisters and brothers who died during / all wars, battles and fratricidal murders / in prisons camps and exiles'.

He also mentions the gravestone of parish priest Kazimierz Logi (d. 1910), surmounted by a sculpture of a woman supported by a cross, and a monument with neo-Gothic decoration on the grave of Fr Leopold de Sasjyżycki (d. 1888), surmounted by a cross decorated at the base with floral ornamentation.

There is an interesting votive monument from 1923(?), with figures of saints in a niche, surmounted by a statue of Our Lady with Child, funded by Józef Zameczkowski.

In the "new" cemetery there is a small brick chapel, decorated only with a medallion (now empty) in the facade and topped with a cross. The founder, Count Sulatycki, is buried under it.

Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).
