Communal church cemetery "behind the town" in Nové Město

Nowe Miasto | Ukraine
ukr. Nowe Misto (Нове Місто)
The old cemetery extends around the parish church in Nowe Miasto and probably dates from the same period as it, specifically back to the early 16th century. The gravestones have exclusively Polish inscriptions and rise directly from the turf. A particular spatial arrangement does not exist.

According to Hauser, all the monuments there are of high historical value. He mentions above all the well-preserved gravestone of Magdalena Gużkowska, née Stupnicka (d. 1847), in the form of a magnificent cast-iron stele decorated with a cast-iron garland, and the stone obelisk standing next to it (in the same cast-iron fence) on the grave of Laura Guźkowska, née Baron Soeldenbolden (d. 1884).

Hauser also mentions a stone obelisk (in the cast-iron fence) on the grave of Albina and Aleksander Prągłowski and a gravestone topped with a cross entwined with drapery on the grave of Karolina Karolina Wolska, née Piechowicza Wolska (d. 1865), located by the church wall itself. Closer to the centre, however, stands a well-preserved obelisk of black marble on the grave of Father Jozef Falarz (d. 1911). Nearby, however, is an unnamed monument with an acroterion topped by a decorative cast-iron cross.

As the (perhaps) least interesting monument, Hauser mentions the tombstone of Loluni (d. 1877) in the form of a neo-Gothic stele.

In the church there are also epitaphs of: Duke Adam Lubomirski, chairman of the church restoration committee (d. 1893), parish priest Jan Szetela (d. 1994), Stanisław Kieszkowski (d. 1842) and Mary of Sigert Kieszkowska (d. 1828) or those killed in the battle of Czyżki and Gdeszyce in 1919.
By the cemetery wall stands a neo-Gothic bell tower.

Documentation was made for the cemetery (152 cards) and 2 cemetery cards (stored in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage). Information about the cemetery published (see bibliography).
