Biography:

Roman Opałka (1931-2011), born in Abbeville-Saint-Lucien, painter and graphic artist, worked in the Conceptualist trend. In 1956, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 1968, he created the series Describing the World. In 1995, he presented his works in the Polish pavilion at the Venice Biennale. His most recognisable work is the series OPALKA 1965 /1 - ∞. In 2010, three works from this series were sold at a Sotheby's auction for £713,250, the highest amount paid for a work by a living Polish artist at the time.
