Biography:

Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), born in Warsaw, son of Filip and Hannaha Nadelman, sculptor, draughtsman. He completed high school and grammar school in Warsaw. In 1904, he left for Munich. His next stop was Paris. There he took up studies at the Académie Colarossi. His works were purchased there by the brothers Tadeusz and Alexander Natanson. Nadelman then became friends with Gertrude Stein, who also bought his works. The artist settled in Montparnassie, among the Polish colony of artists. In 1909, Galerie Druet in Paris held the first solo exhibition of the artist's work. That same year, Nadelman's manifesto was published in the famous magazine Camera Work. In 1914, he moved to the United States. His works can be found in numerous American institutions and private collections.
