Biography:

Helena Gałkowska (1911-1922), Polish artist, creator of artistic and industrial textiles. In 1937 she graduated from the Faculty of Pedagogy at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She created mainly tapestries. She produced her works independently or with her husband Stanisław. From 1946, she began designing textiles for industrial production. Between 1946 and 1947 she worked for the textile works of the "Wanda" Co-operative in Krakow, of which she was a co-organiser. From 1960 she acted as chief designer. On 24 October 1947 she was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit. Together with her husband, she is one of the most recognised Polish tapestry artists of the second half of the 20th century.
