Biography:

Stefan Gałkowski (1912-1984), Polish visual artist, creator of artistic textiles. In 1934, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. At the same time, he studied at the Faculty of Interior Design with Wojciech Jastrzębowski. In 1939 he became a full member of the Professional Bloc of Polish Artists, and in 1945 a member of the Association of Polish Artists. Between 1946 and 1950 he became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. In 1946, he took up the post of artistic director at the "Wanda" Co-operative textile factory in Krakow. In 1978 he received the Award of the City of Cracow. Together with his wife Helena Galkowska, they are one of the most recognised Polish tapestry artists of the second half of the 20th century.
