Biography:

Nikifor Krynicki, Italian: Epifaniusz Drowniak (1895-1968), Polish painter, representative of primitivism. He led a lonely life in poverty and was considered intellectually handicapped for much of his life. Appreciated only towards the end of his life, which did not, however, improve his material situation. He often created on scraps of cardboard, paper and notebook covers, depicting self-portraits and Krynica's architecture. The catalogue of his works numbers around 40,000. From 1960 until his death, he was under the care of painter Marian Wlosinski, who also took care of Nikifor's legacy after his death.
