Karol Wojtyla, known as Pope John Paul II, died on 2 April 2005 in the Vatican. Initially his body rested in a tomb in the basement of St. Peter's Basilica, but after his beatification on 30.4.2011 the coffin was moved to the Chapel of St. Sebastian in St. Peter's Basilica. The coffin was covered with white marble with the inscription: "Beatus Ioannes Paulus PP. II". After the canonisation of John Paul II, on 27 April 2014, the inscription was changed to: "Sanctus Ioannes Paulus PP. II", meaning Saint John Paul II the Pope.
