Cemetery in Kroszyn

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography). According to Lewkowski and Walczak, the active Catholic cemetery in Kroszyn has a rectangular plan, is not divided into plots, has an area of 0.9 hectares and is fenced with a brick wall, concrete and metal fencing. It was created in the 1st half of the 19th century and surrounded the then church, built in 1918. In 1920, a new church was built, causing part of the cemetery to be removed and some of the gravestones embedded in the floor of the church. Today, the cemetery contains most headstones from the 1st half of the 20th century and contemporary gravestones. The oldest gravestone, from 1849, is in the form of a cast-iron slab and is located at the burial place of Jan Samotya. A Belarusian poet, Bagrim Pavlyuk Osipovich, who died in 1891, is buried here. His tombstone is contemporary, having been created in 1994.
