Cemetery in Kurzenec

An active Jewish cemetery, located 900 m south-east of the village centre. The rectangular-plan cemetery occupies approximately 3.3 hectares. It is located on flat terrain, surrounded by meadows and enclosed by a concrete wall. There is no division into alleys and plots, the graves are distributed freely throughout the cemetery. Approximately 300 matzevot have survived, mainly in the central and eastern parts. The preserved matzevot are in the form of granite vertical slabs, ending in a triangular shape. Almost all of the burials bear the symbol of a six-pointed star. The date of establishment of the cemetery is unknown - the oldest tombstones, bearing inscriptions in Russian, date from the 1970s and 1980s. At the entrance there is a monument in the form of a vertical slab of black granite, commemorating the 54 Jews who were executed, in 1941. The cemetery is difficult to access, overgrown with lush vegetation.
Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).
