Biography:

Aleksander Kobzdej (1920-1972), born in Olesko, son of Teofil and Karolina née Szlachetko, architect, painter, draughtsman, set designer, poster designer, illustrator and professor. From 1939 he studied architecture at the Lviv Polytechnic. At the same time, he took painting lessons from Władysław Lam. In 1944, he was deported to forced labour in Vienna, from where he escaped to Yugoslavia. After the war, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow under Prof. Eugeniusz Eibisch. At the end of 1945, he became an assistant to Professor Władysław Lam at the Faculty of Architecture at the Gdansk University of Technology, and graduated from the polytechnic with an engineering diploma. He taught at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Sopot (1947-1951) and later until his death at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
