Osowa cemetery

The old Roman Catholic cemetery was probably established around 1748. According to reports, a church was built in that year and its foundations have been preserved in the central part of the cemetery. The cemetery is located on the south-eastern edge of the village and its area, fenced with a wooden fence, covers approx. 0.7 ha. Apart from the foundations of the church, a detached wooden bell tower has been preserved from the old layout. There are several hundred gravestones in the cemetery, most of them dating from the second half of the 19th century. The oldest is a rectangular slab from 1837, decorated with a carved wreath, a skull and crossed tibias. Its entire surface is covered by an engraved inscription that is illegible. An interesting object is a large tomb, belonging, according to local accounts, to the Buchowiecki or Bochoński family. It is a brick, originally plastered tombstone in the form of a cuboidal block, on a large brick base, covered with a hipped roof covered with sheet metal, supported by four large Tuscan columns. The gravestone shows niches for inscription plaques, but none of the plaques have survived. Also preserved in the cemetery are the cast-iron tombstones of the Komornicki family dating from 1887 to 1888 and the cast-iron cuboidal pedestal of Tekla née Skirmuntta Bortnowska and Rozalia née Kamieńska Horbatowska. The cemetery is a typical cemetery of the noble area. Apart from it, there is another contemporary Orthodox cemetery in Osowa, with no gravestones showing historical or artistic value.

Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).
