Cemetery in Voronocha

Worończa | Belarus
biał. Waroncza (Варонча)
Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Documentation was made for the cemetery (2 cards stored in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage). Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography).

According to Anna Lewkowska, Jacek Lewkowski and Wojciech Walczak, there is a cemetery next to the 18th-century St. Anne's Church in Voronocha, which contains four tombstones of the Bułhak family. The oldest has the inscription: "JULIA / EX HROMYKO / BUŁHAK / MORTUS EST 1859 / ANNO DOMINI AETATIS / VERO 45". The youngest gravestone dates from 1905 and commemorates Valery Bulhak.

Lewkowski and Walczak also describe the Catholic cemetery, which they call "one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the Novogrudok region". It is divided into a new cemetery (area 0.4 hectares, rectangular plan) and an old cemetery (plan close to a rectangle, no division into plots and alleys). The cemetery was established at the beginning of the 19th century. According to the cited authors: "Here rest the local landowners, among others, the Wereszczak family, the Czeczot family, the Wojn family connected with Rajca, or the Mierzejewski and Lubański families - the successive owners of Voronocha, as well as Józefa Tuhanowicz, the last owner of the Tuhanowicze estate. There is a large number of tombstones of great historical and artistic interest, often from distant stonemasons' workshops, made in workshops in Vilnius or even Warsaw. "The oldest tombstone, from 1801, bears the inscription: "S. P. JÓZEFA STANKIEWICZOWA / LIVED L. 63 / UM. 1801 / 11 SEPTEMBRA / REST IN PEACE / AFTER THE PAST YOUR(IM) / BATTLE YOUR LIFE OF SORROW / (...) ETERNAL JOY". It is also worth noting the inscription from the gravestone of Józefa Tuhanowska: "S. P. / JÓZEFA TUHANOWSKA / D.O.B. 20. IV. 1860 R. / DIED. 24 XII. 1930 R. / CAVALIER / OF THE ORDER OF POLAND REBIRTH / DONOR / OF THE FAMILY TUHANOWICZ TO THE STATE / LIVED AND WORKED FOR THE PEOPLE / SCIENCE AND THE NATIVE LAND". The cemetery is maintained in very good condition and, to quote the researchers mentioned above, "is a beautiful example of the great artistic and historical values hidden in borderland necropolises."
