Biography:

Jan Chełmiński (1851-1925), born in Brzustów, son of Maksymilian Chełmiński and Kazimiera Glinka-Janczewska, coat of arms Trzaska. He studied drawing under Juliusz Kossak in Warsaw. In 1873, he left to study in Munich. In 1888, he left for London. In 1897, in Paris, he founded the Society for the Care of Polish Art. From 1899 he lived in St Petersburg, and in 1915 he emigrated to New York. He painted genre, battle and military scenes.
