On 24 May 1942, Pentecost, as a result of a shootout instigated by local Poles, one German soldier was killed and another wounded. The following day, 25 May, the Germans shot 21 men of Polish nationality in retaliation. 16 were shot in the morning, by the road leading from Vilnius to the town, on a field hill called Dziescinka, not far from the forestry and cemetery, and 5 Poles were killed in the evening near the forest near Smolarnia. Those shot along the road were buried at the execution site. In 1975 there was a memorial plaque in Lithuanian on this grave. A plaque with a Polish inscription and a list of the victims was added in the 1990s. The inscription in Polish states: "Here rest the inhabitants from Olkieniki executed by the German occupier in 1942-V-25 [hereinafter list of names]". After 2000, a wooden statue with a religious message was placed a few metres in front of the commemoration.
