In Sveljunga Cemetery there is a mass grave of prisoners from German concentration camps who were evacuated from Germany as part of the Swedish Red Cross relief effort in 1945. The effort was initiated and organised by Count Folke Bernadotte, vice-chairman of the Swedish Red Cross, and was colloquially known as the 'White Buses'. - comes from the colour of the vehicles used to transport the evacuees. Upon arrival in Sweden, the evacuees were sent for treatment or convalescence, but despite care, some of them died of exhaustion and acquired diseases. Among the 6 buried here are 3 Poles who died in 1946: Edmund Żebrowski, Mieczysław Strzelecki and Bronisław Grajzer. On the grave is a granite monument with the names of the deceased and the year of their birth (the Poles recorded as EDMUND ZEBROWSKI 1913, MIEZUSLAV STRZELECKE 1912, GRAJZER BRONISLAV 1920) and a text in Swedish placed above and below the names: "FLYKTINGAR FRAN ANDRA VÄRLDSKRIGET" ("REFUGEES FROM WORLD WAR II"), below the names: DÖDA AR 1946 ("DIED IN 1946").
