Tomb of the victims of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA)

Teresin was a large Polish colony, inhabited by about 300 Poles and a few Ukrainian families. It was formed from the parceling out of the Kohylno estate, owned by Zdzislaw Prince Lubomirski.

On 29.08.1943, on a Sunday, Ukrainian peasants from Kohylno and Gnojno, together with the Ukrainian UPA, carried out an armed attack on Poles in Teresin. Only a few Poles managed to escape. Polish houses were ransacked. According to witnesses, about 200 people were killed during this attack. There were several instances of Ukrainians helping the Poles.

The victims were buried in a common grave. On 9.08.1997 a cross was solemnly consecrated on this grave, erected by the Association for the Commemoration of Poles Murdered in Volhynia. The inscription reads: "116 Poles / residents of Teresin / who died in 1943 / in eternal memory / Compatriots".

In 2008 and 2011, members of the Association carried out repair and renovation work on this commemoration.
