Mass grave of the Home Army soldiers killed in the battle of Kravchuny-Novosiolki

Soldiers of the Home Army who fell on 13.07.1944 near Kravchunami-Novosilki were buried in the grounds of Vilnius Calvary, in the forest, near the 17th century Passion Station. In 1980, permission was given to move them to the Catholic cemetery in Kalvarija. The exhumation was carried out by the burial office, but some of the remains remained in their former location. In 1989, Budimex workers walled up the modest grave. The grave was completed with a small terrace and a staircase made of concrete slabs. In 1990. Helena Pasierbska, a courier and Home Army nurse, brought a metal cross from Gdansk and set it up at her own expense. She placed a plaque on the cross with the handwritten inscription: "Here lie 46 soldiers of the Home Army who died on July 13, 1944 in the defence of Vilnius in the villages of Kravchuny and Novosiolki Ave Maria". After some time, the Union of Poles in Lithuania funded a new plaque, preserving the original content. In 2004, the grave was redecorated, the work being financed by the Council for the Protection of Memory of Struggle and Martyrdom. The current inscription reads: "Here rest the soldiers of Grouping No. 2 of the Home Army of Major Mieczysław Potocki "Węgielny" who fell on 13 July 1944 in a battle with the Germans in the area of the village of Krawczuny-Nowosiółki. Honour their memory".
