Mass grave of Polish Army soldiers killed in the Polish-Bolshevik war

On 6.09.1920, at a strategically important point - near the railway line - a clash took place between the Polish and Bolshevik forces. On the Polish side, the fight was fought mainly by the 3rd battalion of the 16th IR, i.e. Jasło secondary school volunteers with their professors. The Soviets gradually withdrew from their positions, which allowed the Polish formations to capture the Mogiła hill and the village of Krasne, but due to an unexpected attack by the cavalry led by Semyon Budyonny, the Poles had to retreat, many of them killed.

Initially, the dead were buried in a roadside grave. After three years, a grave was arranged on which a large wooden cross was erected, and the whole was fenced off with a wooden fence. After World War II, the grave was destroyed, its location indicated only by the remains of a wooden cross.

On 24.09.2011 a monument was unveiled on the grave of the fallen soldiers, built through the efforts of the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites. The co-initiator and co-organiser of the ceremony organised at that time was the Jasło local government, as most of the fallen were students and teachers of the Jasło secondary school.

The gravesite was built in the shape of a small mound paved with light-coloured stone, and a cross of stone was erected on it, bearing the inscription: "Here rest the soldiers of the Polish Army fallen on 6-9 September 1920 in the fight against the Bolsheviks. / Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Remembrance / Jasło local government / 2011". The names of 18 soldiers, including a professor from Jaslo and 7 of his students, are engraved on the plaque at the foot of the cross.
