From 1938 until the end of the Second World War, the village of Salka belonged to Hungary. Polish refugees who arrived in Salka after the outbreak of the Second World War were housed in the local barracks. Initially, about a hundred Polish military officers and soldiers stayed here. By the time the front arrived, more than 50 officers remained in the camp.
Three internees died and were buried in the city cemetery. They were: Lt. Tomasz Miłowicz, died 28.01.1940, cadet lieutenant Jerzy Giedroyć, died 13.06.1944, and major Jarosław Papirnik, died 14.01.1941. The remains of the latter were exhumed after the war and buried in Poland by his family, while the graves of the other two officers are located next to the entrance to the cemetery, the area between them not being covered by a new burial. Stone crosses have been placed on the graves with inscriptions engraved on them: "ŚP / Jerzy Giedroyc / wachm podchor. / wojsk polskich / died dn. [?] VI 1944 / lived age 48 [?]" and "ŚP / Tomasz / Milowicz / porucznik / wojsk polskich / died dn. 28.I.1940 / lived age 54".
