The graves of the Lagers in the local cemetery, commemorated by crosses

The cemetery in the Makaricha (Makaricha) district is located on the extension of Lenina Street towards the "Lesozavod" combine. The deceased prisoners of the largest gulag in Kotlaskie were buried there. Poles, Russians and representatives of other nationalities rest here.

The last burials in the cemetery took place in the 1950s. Later, the cemetery area was partly built over with garages and cells.

In 1995 two identical crosses and two identical bilingual (Polish and Russian) plaques were placed in a prominent place on the larger part of the cemetery and on the smaller part - a few hundred metres from the road, on the edge of the forest, in honour of all the Lagers. The commemoration was funded by the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites.

Both crosses were made of wood and placed on small concrete foundations, against which the plaques with inscriptions were supported. The inscription in Polish reads: "1930 - 1939 - 1956 / To the Poles, Russians and all the dead martyred in the Kotlaski labour camps: Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Daughters and Sons. / Eternal rest, eternal memory, Warsaw 1995".
