Biography:

Jan Rudomina-Dusiacki[a] (1581-1646) - hussar rotmistrz, deputy to the Sejm, ensign and castellan of Novogrudok. He studied at the Vilnius Academy where he was a member of the Marian Sodalition. He then travelled to Ingolstadt in the company of Jan Pac, governor of Minsk, where he registered at the local university in 1600. He later became a tutor for the three sons of Nicolas Christopher Radziwill in Augsburg, and travelled to Italy with them. While studying in Bologna in 1607, one of Radziwill's sons died, whose body Rudomina transported to Lithuania in 1608. Jan Rudomina-Dusiacki, with the help of his father, was elected deputy to the Lithuanian Tribunal by the nobility of the Braslav district in 1610. In time, he advanced, becoming secretary and royal courtier. He also received the Wilkij forestry from Sigismund III Vasa and the Polonka estate. Thanks to the estate and his function as a provost on behalf of Mikolaj Sapieha, he gained a significant position among the Novogrudok nobility. During the Polish-Turkish War, Jan Rudomina-Dusiacki enlisted soldiers in the hussar flag at the command of Hetman Jan Karol Chodkiewicz. During the Battle of Chocim in 1621, he took part in a counter-attacking charge, during which his brother Jerzy was killed and he himself was wounded. In the second half of 1627, Jan Rudomina-Dusiacki participated in the war against the Swedes in Inflants, commanding a hussar flag. For his merits, he was awarded the office of an ensign of Novogrudok and a toll in Polotsk. He was also an active politician, serving as an MP nine times in the 1620s and 1630s, and participating in various assemblies and political conferences. In 1635 he proved himself to be an opponent of Jerzy Ossolinski, who was accused of illegal changes to the constitution. In 1636 he became castellan of Novogrudok, but concentrated on managing his estates and did not play an important role in public life. Jan Rudomina-Dusiacki is also considered to be the author of a rhymed work entitled 'Diariusz prawdziwy expediciej Korony Polskiej y Wielkiego Xięstwa litewsk. Against Osman, the Emperor of Turkey in 1621 at Chocim in Wallachia".
