The quarters of Polish Army soldiers killed in the Polish-Bolshevik war

During the Polish-Bolshevik war, on 3-9 July 1920, Polish troops under the command of General K. Raszewski fought heavy battles for Rivne against Budionny's mounted army. After fierce street clashes, the Poles retreated in the direction of Klewany.
The fallen Polish soldiers were buried in the Rivne cemetery. The war quarters are located near the main entrance to the cemetery, on the right side. Several hundred soldiers were buried here.
After World War II, some of the tombstones were destroyed and removed, and the inscriptions on the crosses that remained were obliterated with concrete. Approximately 200 graves, situated in 4 rows, have been preserved in the cemetery to the present day. In one of the rows, the grave of Alfred Kelle has been preserved, which has a different form from the other graves: it is a recumbent slab with a bas-relief shield on which is engraved the inscription: "Alfred Kelle / Pvt. of the Polish Army / born 5 XI 1902 died 19 II 1920. / You have made great emptiness for us / in our home our dear Alfred / with your disappearance / full of us, as if there was no one / with your one soul so many are gone".
In 1994, the plot was cleaned up, and on 17 September of that year the new central cross in the plot was consecrated. Further cleaning and renovation work was carried out in 2000.
