The Archcathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (the so-called Latin Cathedral) in Lviv is one of the most valuable historical and monumental buildings in the territory of the former Republic of Poland. Its interiors witnessed, among other things, the Lvov wedding of King Jan Kazimierz (1656) and the baptism of the later King Stanisław Leszczyński (1677). The most eminent Lvov artists participated in the creation of the valuable furnishings preserved to this day, including the architect Piotr Polejowski, the sculptors Maciej Polejowski, Jan Obrocki, Franciszek Olędzki (Olendzki), the author of the polychrome Stanisław Stroiński and many others. Their work has resulted in a work that is not only historically important, but also artistically outstanding.

At the end of 2020. Polonica Institute began conservation work on the Stanislaw Stroinski paintings within the music choir bay.

The series of paintings on the vault depict two biblical scenes. The first is the 'Flight into Egypt', occupying two of the vault's cross-ribbed arches, and the 'Slaughter of the Innocents' on another two arches.

The aim of the restoration work is to halt the deterioration of the artistic decoration and the degradation of the historic substance, and to restore the artistic values of the church's decoration to those of the original. The work involves removing layers of plaster and paint on the elements of the vault and carrying out appropriate retouching of the exposed original paintings. Cracks and fissures became apparent during the works. These needed to be stabilised by injection and suturing with stainless steel rods inserted deep into the masonry. Once the repainting had been removed, retouching was carried out using a colour stain a tone lighter than the original colour that had been preserved.
