Monument to the heroes of 1848 in Bucharest

The Monument to the Heroes of 1848 in Bucharest was made by Vladimir Hegel between 1899 and 1901, and was unveiled on 13 September 1901 in front of the Army Arsenal. The monument is dedicated to the firefighters, heroes of the 1848 revolution, and was realised in bronze. On the front of the monument is a plaque with the inscription: "To the fighters of 13 September 1848 Grateful Romanian people, MDCCCL (1900)" . On the other side also a plaque with the inscription: "In memory of the battle fought at this place by the Bucharest firefighters under Captain Zăgănescu and the 2nd Reg. 2nd Line Battalion under Colonel Radu Golescu against a division of the Turkish army commanded by Kerim Pasha" . The monument was decommissioned in 1984 and was later moved to the intersection of Căia 13 Septembrie and Izvor Streets. On 13 September 1990, it was placed in front of the JW Marriott Hotel, where it remains today.
