Biography:

Roman Czerniawski (1910-1985), born in Toustem, died in London, a qualified major, pilot of the Polish Air Force in Great Britain, knight of the Silver Cross of the Virtuti Militari War Order, appointed lieutenant-colonel by the authorities of the Second Republic of Poland in exile, minister in three successive governments of Kazimierz Sabbat (1978-1985). Appointed second lieutenant on 15 August 1931, promoted to lieutenant on 5 March 1934, and promoted to the rank of captain on 19 March 1939. During the September Campaign of 1939, he served in Warsaw. After 17 September 1939, he went to Romania, then to France. He took part in the French campaign. He established contact with Polish intelligence. He cooperated with the Abwera in order to protect his colleagues. Then from September 1942 he collaborated for the Polish Government as a double agent. After the war he remained in London.
