Biography:

Stefan Jacek Dembiński (1887-1972), born in Nowy Siodlo. On 18 August 1907, he was appointed second lieutenant and was incorporated into the 1st Uhlan Regiment in Lwów. He fought on the fronts of World War I as an officer and commanded a squadron and a division of the 1st Uhlan Regiment. In the Polish Army from November 1, 1918, he was commander of the Lvov Defence Reserve. In 1928, he was promoted to colonel in the cavalry officers' corps. On 10 September 1939, he was appointed commander of the "Stryi" Group. He was entrusted with the defence of the bridgehead on the Dniester. After the Soviet invasion, he moved to Hungary. Until April 1940, he was the representative of the Commander-in-Chief in Hungary. In April 1940, he left for France, then moved to Scotland shortly after the defeat of France. Until his demobilisation he was Head of the Military Cabinet of the President of the Republic in London. He later remained in this position. He settled in London, where he spent the rest of his life.
