Biography:

Aleksander Ken (1828-1874) - Polish photographer and inventor with Jewish roots; active in the lands of the Republic under partition and France. He was active in Paris as a photographer from at least 1959, and joined the Société française de photographie in 1960. He was the author of Dissertations historiques, artistiques et scientifiques sur la photographie (Historical, artistic and scientific reflections on photography), one of the first disquisitions on the aesthetics of photography, published in 1864. Ken gained recognition as a portrait photographer and amateur photographer of vaudeville dancers.
