Biography:

Polish-Belarusian social activist, writer, publicist and amateur painter. He studied at the University of Dorpat. In 1838 he was exiled to Chernigov for independence activities. In 1845 he was imprisoned for patriotic activities in Vilnius and exiled again, this time to Orenburg and then to Kazakhstan. He stayed there until 1856. In 1851 he worked as a draftsman in Alexander Antipov's geological expedition. In 1866 he became secretary of the Historical and Literary Society.
