Bialunda cemetery

Bialunda cemetery

Cemetery with Polish gravestone monuments. Information about the cemetery has been published (see bibliography). According to Lewkowski and Walczak, the cemetery was probably established in the mid-19th century. "It is located in the middle of the fields by a dirt road, 200 m north of the Bialunda village development and 400 m south-east of the Bakuny village development. The cemetery is active and receives the dead from one village and the other. It is located on a flat area, has a rectangular plan without division into plots. It is small, covering an area of 0.16 hectares, and is fenced by a low fieldstone wall. (...) The only preserved tombstone from the 19th century and at the same time the oldest is the tombstone of Tomasz Szymnaowicz from 1877. It is a small granite pedestal topped with a cast-iron cross" The cross bears a plaque with the inscription: "HERE THE REMAINS OF THE LATE TOMASZ SZYMANOWICZ / DIED. 6 FEBRUARY 1877 MEMORIAL / CONSECRATED BY JAN SZYMANOWICZ". The cemetery is dominated by contemporary tombstones.
