Biography:

Leopold Schimser (1833-1888), born in Lviv, son of Jan Schimser and Julianna, née Michalska, sculptor and stonemason entrepreneur associated with Lviv.

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, but after several of his own tombstones, he gave up artistic sculpture in favour of running a stone workshop. From the 1860s he co-managed a stonemasonry company on Lychakivska Street, which specialised in stone, marble and granite products.
